During an interview with talkSPORT, Fernando Torres showed a strange side of him and took the blame for not living up to the hype at Chelsea.
We all know how complicated Fernando Torres’ time at Chelsea was. The man was coming fresh out of an impressive run at Liverpool and the major responsibility to be the main man with the Blues. But when he had the chance to shine, he completely bottled it.
Although he managed to squeeze in a memorable performance against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals. There is still a general feeling that he fooled the Chelsea supporters, most of them don’t think he was worth what the club paid for.
Until today, we had never heard Fernando speak publicly about his disappointing run at the club. The man sat down with the talkSPORT folks to speak candidly about this stage of his career.
Fernando takes the blame.
During this interview, Torres already said which club had the biggest chance of winning the Premier League. He hailed Frank Lampard’s summer transfer work but he also opened up about his failed tenure with the Blues.
“It was maybe my fault for not being able to adapt quicker,” said Fernando on talkSPORT.
“I had good moments but I wasn’t consistent. If you are not performing every week then someone will come in. “I always said it was my fault. I was old enough to find solutions but I didn’t do it. I won the trophies but I didn’t do it every week.
“[Carlo] Ancelotti was the manager when I signed. I spoke with him before I signed, but that was not the reason I signed.
“Every year they change the manager. and it’s always a big manager.
“I knew the difficulties of going to Chelsea, but I thought it was the team to offer the chances of winning more trophies. They hadn’t won the Champions League and a generation like that needed to win the Champions League. Finally we did it.”
