Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has heaped praise on the team and manager Hansi Flick following an outstanding season.

Bayern Munich won a popular ‘treble’ in 2019/20, with a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final being the icing on the cake.

The Bavarians lifted Europe’s most prestigious club title in remarkable fashion, winning all 11 of their matches in the competition.

Also, despite sitting seventh in the Bundesliga back in November, the reigning German champions ended up winning the league crown with a 13-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Rummenigge’s decision to dismiss Niko Kovac and bring Hansi Flick into a hot seat has turned out to be a massive success.

Under the 55-year-old tutelage, the Allianz Arena outfit have gone 30 games unbeaten in all competitions, winning the last 22!

Indeed, the 2019/20 season was all about Bayern! Reflecting on the team’s immense success on multiple fronts, Rummenigge said: “We’ve had a season where the song ‘Feels like Heaven’ would be appropriate. We were seventh in the Bundesliga in November, but since Hansi Flick took over, it’s been a non-stop success story.

“I won’t make the mistake now of saying: We have to win the treble again straightaway. Only Real Madrid have succeeded in retaining the Champions League – you can see how difficult it is,” he told Bayern’s official website.

“Nevertheless, one thing is certain: we have a great team with great coaching staff under Hansi Flick, and we’re in brilliant shape for the future. I’m convinced we’ll continue to have success with this team.

“If you go 30 games without defeat, a statement and feeling like that are definitely not unjustified. Now, after the final in Lisbon, there is joy unconfined, but time does not stand still.

“The stopwatch is set back to zero for the start of the season. Despite our euphoria, we can’t forget we’re facing a season that will stress the players like never before.

“There’s only a short break before the opening match, there are a lot of weeks with two matches, and finally there’s the European Championship.

“We’ll have to make sure, in cooperation with the associations, that the players don’t end up running on empty.”

Bayern Munich welcome Schalke 04 to the Allianz Arena on September 18 for their opening 2020/21 Bundesliga fixture.
