Phillipe Coutinho has returned to Barcelona after his loan spell with Bayern Munich. The German giants thanked the midfielder for his efforts.

Phillipe Coutinho is back to being a Barcelona player after his loan stint with Bayern officially expired.

In his loan deal, the Brazilian had a clause that allowed Bayern the option of a permanent deal come the end of the season. However, the Bavarians decided against it.

Coutinho was a somewhat decent loan signing for Bayern Munich and he left his best performances for the last. He was a second-half substitute in their last four Champions League games. His highlight was his role in Bayern’s 8-2 demolition of his parent club Bayern Munich.

Via a statement on their website, the Champions League winners have thanked the midfielder for his contributions while at the club.

“We want to thank Philippe Coutinho very much. With his creativity and excellent technique, he enlivened our game in the treble season,” CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

“[His performances in the Champions League especially] proved that it was a good decision to have him on loan. We all wish Philippe all the best for his future career.”

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic added: “Even if FC Bayern and Philippe Coutinho part ways after just one season, his involvement in Munich has made it clear what an excellent player he is.”

Coutinho made a total of 38 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring nine times and recording 11 assists across all competitions.

His future remains up in the air. Barcelona reportedly have no plans for the midfielder who has been tipped with a Premier League return.
