Ciro Immobile has ended any lingering doubts over his future by signing a new long-term contract with Lazio until 2025.

36 goals in 37 games for Lazio not only saw Immobile equal Gonzalo Higuain’s record for the most goals in a single Serie A campaign but won him a maiden European Golden Shoe prize.

The 30-year-old had the finest season of his career, which led to reported interest from rival clubs. Newcastle United and Everton, in particular, were strongly linked with moves.

But Immobile was always insistent that the plan would be to remain at Lazio, and he’s stayed true to his word by putting pen-to-paper on a contract until 2025.

The Biancocelesti made a short announcement of the deal on their Twitter account and will reportedly pay the striker around €4m-per-season until he turns 35, which is when he presumably intends to retire.

Now Immobile, who helped end the club’s 13-year wait for Champions League football last season, hopes to build on their promising progress since his arrival in 2016.

“It’s a new season with the Champions League and aiming to confirm our status in Serie A,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re satisfied with the last four years under Simone Inzaghi, and although the lockdown did destabilize the squad, we got back on track pretty quickly.

“We haven’t changed much over the summer, as it has been a constant growth over the past few years for players, coach, and club.”
