Barcelona and Lionel Messi are on a collision course with former club assistant Juan Carlos Unzue wanting him to join Pep Guardiola.
After giving years of his life in service to Barcelona’s cause, Lionel Messi wants out. The Argentine attacker has carried Blaugrana over the last three years alone and has had enough of the water carrying tasks.
Messi wants to end his association with Barcelona and has let his feelings known to the Catalan club. The Camp Nou outfit are unwilling to part company with him and are looking to drag the affair.
Former Barcelona assistant, Juan Carlos Unzue has weighed in on the situation. Unzue opined that if Messi leaves, he wishes he joins someone who is aware of his abilities. Pep Guardiola.
The former Numancia manager tipped him to join Manchester City as he offers success and history. Unzue admitted it will be a tough decision for La Pulga and only had great words for Guardiola.
“On one hand, if he leaves Barcelona, I would love that he goes to remember old times with people he already knows and has felt a shared success with,” Goal quoted the former assistant.
“I hope he goes to Manchester City; I say this sincerely. I am sure his decision will be very tough.
“Also, I am sure he keeps a great memory of that period with Pep because everyone has grown up alongside Pep.
“This is a reality, not just the players but everyone who has worked in the staff too. I speak for myself, but I have felt and heard that from others.”
Messi’s request has been met with support by former Barcelona players. The same cannot be said of his employers who are pressurizing him in staying another year at the club. Messi wants to leave on good terms but the club are forcing his hand.
