Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Farre has called on Josep Maria Bartomeu to step down as president of the club.
Jordi Farre is the latest figure at Barcelona to openly hit out at club president Bartomeu.
It’s been utter chaos at the Nou Camp over the past few weeks.
From their brutal Champions League exit to Setien’s sacking as well as Eric Abidal’s departure. The latest trouble and perhaps their biggest one to deal with is Lionel Messi supposedly asking to leave the club.
Much of the clubs misfortunes has been pinned into the hands of Bartomeu.
A number of ex-Barca stars have recently hit out at the running of the club at top level.
Earlier today, a number of Barcelona fans took part in a protest outside Camp Nou with chants of ‘Bartomeu out’ in sight.
Jordi Farre, who will contest in the club’s next presidential election, has added fuel to fire. He categorically asked Bartomeu to step down.
“I take advantage of being here to request the resignation of Josep Maria Bartomeu,” he told Marca on Wednesday.
“He should have resigned with the ‘Neymar Case’ but now the situation is unsustainable, he has to step aside and let those with desire step up.”
Farre is even further distraught at the news of Messi wanting to leave the club.
“Messi doesn’t want to leave Barcelona, we’re sure of that, but they are making it difficult for him,” he insisted.
“Messi feels at home here, but he doesn’t want to work with this board.
“We have to create an ecosystem for Messi to stay in Barcelona and for that Bartomeu has to resign.
“When Messi says goodbye, it has to be with the biggest statue at the Camp Nou.”
