Manchester City were dumped out of Champions League and the blame rests squarely on Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City were favorites against Olympique Lyon. However, they were undone by Pep Guardiola’s team selection and tactics. In the end, they were knocked out of the competition following their 3-1 defeat.
While the creative hub of their midfield sat on the bench, Guardiola sent his conservative players out on the pitch.
Dimitar Berbatov was bewildered by City’s approach to the game and did not shy away from voicing his criticism.
The Bulgarian forward was sure Citizens would approach the game their way but was left wondering about their defensive outlook.
“I was very surprised at Pep’s tactics, it was the first time I’ve seen him look so defensive,” Marca quoted Berbatov.
“Usually, City play their own way and don’t worry too much about their opponents, but on this occasion they looked like they had too much respect for Lyon.
“Pep will know what mistakes he made.
“He is always going to come in for criticism in the position he is in, especially as City have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage four times.”
