Liverpool do not intend to rest after a successful season as there is a relentless desire for glory in the team, says Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 2020/21 Premier League season was originally scheduled to commence on August 8 but the date had to be pushed back due to disruption in the footballing calendar caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The 2019/20 season was a historical one for Liverpool as they finally ended the 30-year wait to lift the Premier League trophy.

Liverpool have already begun preparations for the 29th Premier League season which is set to start from September 12.

And Xherdan Shaqiri, who has won back-to-back domestic championships with Bayern Munich and FC Basel, insists his side has what it takes to defend their crown.

“Everybody is excited to play again and to defend the season we had last season,” Shaqiri told the official club website from the team’s training camp in Austria.

“It’s very difficult but we try to achieve again a lot of things and we want to win a lot of games. We have the capacity, we have the team who is still hungry and wants to win many titles.

“We are really excited and we always want to win every game but we know it’s going to also be difficult. The other teams also want to win, so I think it’s going to be an exciting season.”
