Xherdan Shaqiri is planning on staying at Liverpool to fight for his place despite not playing any more than a bit-part role this season.

Xherdan Shaqiri’s second season at Liverpool could not have been more different from his first.

Between a mix of injuries and loss of form, he was limited to just a handful of appearances for the Anfield side. Whereas in his debut season for the club he was often Jurgen Klopp’s go-to guy, especially from the bench.

This has led to talk of the Swiss international looking for the exit door in search of regular action.

The player has now moved to distance himself from a move away from the Merseysiders, insisting he has every intention of rediscovering his earlier form.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he is looking forward to helping defend the Premier League title in the 2020/21 season.

Shaqiri said:

“Always if you are injured or if you are not playing, you’re frustrated. But I’m looking forward to this season and trying to help the team all the time, so I have the chance to play like the first season.”

“As a team, I just want us to achieve a lot of things. I think we have a lot of good players in our team, everyone can play and we try to make it very difficult for the coach as always.”

“I’m trying to give my best too and to help the team to win games, titles – that’s the most important thing for me.”

Who remembers when Shaqiri got relegated with Stoke?
