Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly close to agreeing on a deal to remain with AC Milan for next season, with the club keen to wrap things up.
Ibrahimovic returned to AC Milan in January and brilliantly helped overturn the club’s dismal start to finish in a respectable sixth-place in last season’s Serie A standings, securing Europa League football as well.
The ageless Swede’s 39th birthday may come up in October, but he still continues to shine. While there may have been a few bumps on the road early on, Zlatan’s return was a roaring success.
He not only scored an impressive 11 goals in 20 outings across all competitions, but the former Manchester United striker’s character helped lift the squad when it was at its lowest point.
Although Ibrahimovic, whose contract expires on August 31, has remained coy about his future plans. Milan do have an option to extend his deal for another year. However, the Swede’s dissatisfaction with how the club is run was reportedly a concern.
According to Sky Sports, though, Milan can breathe easy once again. The Rossoneri are locked in talks with Ibrahimovic and hope to confirm a deal for the 2020/21 campaign by Monday, which is when the squad return for pre-season.
The only obstacle left is agreeing on a suitable salary for both parties. It’s understood Ibrahimovic wants a figure of around €7.5m, but Milan can only offer him €5m for the season.
