Forced off the pitch just before half-time, the Morocco international attended the post-match celebrations with his arm in a sling.
Thomas Tuchel admits Hakim Ziyech suffered a “serious” injury during Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Villarreal.
Ziyech handed Chelsea the lead in the 27th minute, getting on the end of Kai Havertz’s cross and tapping home from close range.
It did not take long for the winger’s emotion to take a drastic turn as he appeared to dislocate his shoulder after landing awkwardly following a painful-looking collision with defender Juan Foyth.
The 28-year-old received oxygen as part of his treatment on the pitch before eventually being replaced by Christian Pulisic just three minutes shy of the half-time mark.
“If you take a player out during the first half it is serious,” Tuchel told BT Sport after Chelsea won the match on penalties.
“We overused some players who were absolutely not ready to play 120 minutes and have only two days in between this and the next match with Crystal Palace so that absolutely does not help us.
“We came (to Belfast) with so many players who did not even play a friendly match so far so this is the situation – we have to adapt and we have to, in our mindset, be as ready as we can be to do our very best.”
