After getting Liverpool in the Champions League draw, Zinedine Zidane reacted to Real Madrid’s upcoming rivals in the tournament.
There is no doubt that the world will look at Zinedine Zidane as the luckiest manager in Real Madrid’s history. He is fed-up with this rhetoric because he feels thinking of him as a man with great fortune is an insult to all his achievements. We can’t forget this is the manager who won three UEFA Champions League titles in three consecutive seasons. This type of success doesn’t come with luck. Getting Liverpool in the draw is a major problem for ‘Zizou’ and his players because they are a complete wild card.
However, they have bigger chances of getting to the final if they pass this stage unscathed. On the other side of the tournament, you have all three top contenders going against each other. Bayern Munich will face PSG in the quarterfinals with the potential to face Manchester City in the semifinals. Nobody can deny that Real Madrid has a relatively easier road than the other three.
Zidane still thinks it will be difficult.
In a press conference reported by AS, this is what Zidane said: “We already know how difficult these games will be. Every club is great at this level, every club is tough. It is going to be a highly demanding match. We know this team well, they will demand a lot more from you on the physical aspect. But that is for after the international break. For now, we have tomorrow’s game to worry about and we are focused on that.
“We can’t say it’s a bad or a good draw. Throughout the season, Liverpool is the type of club that can play at their highest level at any moment. The same thing happens with us. We were on the verge of elimination and yet, we are still here. The squad is still alive in two competitions. It is going to be a great match between two clubs that won many Champions. At this level, winning is always complicated.”
