Harry Kane has an ‘extraordinary’ goal record, says Darren Bent, but is still miles behind Wayne Rooney among the Premier League greats.
12 goals and 10 assists have come Kane’s way in all competitions since the start of the season. It’s an exceptional record, especially as he hasn’t always been associated as an assist provider before now.
But it just goes to show how much Kane is raising his game as he enters his prime at 27 years old.
The sky is limit as far as the Tottenham superstar is concerned, with an impressive 149 goals in just 217 Premier League games. He may even match or break Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals – especially if he keeps these numbers up.
Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals for England at international level, meanwhile, is also in Kane’s sights. The Three Lions skipper is on 32 goals to date, and still has a good few years left in him – provided he stays fit, of course.

“Kane’s certainly got the potential – if he carries on on this path – to be one of the greats,” Bent told talkSPORT. “Rooney was something else in his prime.”
The ex-Spurs striker continued: “I don’t think I put him [Kane] in the top five yet. Longevity has to play a part.
“He’s got 149 Premier League goals in 213 games, which is extraordinary. But when you look at the all-round package of what he does, when Wayne Rooney was at his absolute maximum, you can’t tell me Kane is better.
“It’s only now we’re starting to see the full package with Kane. You think about all the positions Rooney got asked to play. He played everywhere.
“You forget how good he was. So to say Harry Kane is the best English center-forward, I don’t think so.
“I’m a big fan of Kane and he’s one of those strikers where every time they get the ball around the box you’re thinking it’s a goal.
“Potentially Kane could be the best but if you’re looking at the full package, holding the ball up, bringing others into play, technique… you can’t beat Rooney.”
