Former Manchester United icon Dwight Yorke has delivered his verdict on the club’s decision to add Edinson Cavani to their attacking options.

Cavani joined Manchester United on a one-year deal with an option to extend for a further year on October 5.

The 33-year-old dropped into a free-agent pool after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired earlier in the summer.

PSG’s all-time top-scorer registered 200 goals in 301 outings for the club and is now expected to provide United with some lethal touches in the final third.

Despite entering the final stage of his career, the former Napoli star would be a massive addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Although many have argued about the Norwegian’s decision to hire Cavani, he is the type of player Solskjaer has been crying out for last season.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood have all proved reliable, but ‘El Matador’ is a different kind of beast.

One of the rare classic No 9’s in modern football, Cavani is not only a prolific goal-scorer but also a perfect team player.

His sophisticated ventures behind the enemy lines and aerial strength will give United’s attack a new dimension.

Dwight Yorke truly believes that Solskjaer’s decision to bring in Cavani will help the Red Devils in their battle on multiple fronts this season.

“We all kind of link him with Zlatan due to what he’s going to bring and the guidance he can give the younger players, but I feel from an attacking point of view, I’m not worried,” he said, as relayed by Metro.

“I feel like we are up there with the very best – obviously Liverpool and City, now you look at Tottenham’s front three and they’re a threat.

“I think our front three and probably a front four now with Cavani can be up there with the very best on any given day. It’s a good bit of business for what we need in this present moment of time.

“What has happened here is that the manager has got a choice.

“I don’t think that’s been an issue in terms of attacking players that are creative.

“Certainly at the back of last season, where we were 14 games unbeaten, we probably scored four goals every game on average, so the record throughout the front three has been very impressive.

“As far as I’m concerned, Ole has got that part of it totally right.

“I expected those players to kick on, of course. Cavani coming in is always going to add more competition for the players, which is probably needed.”
