The LaLiga leaders moved 12 points clear of reigning champions Real Madrid after Sunday’s memorable Clasico victory.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has warned his side not to drop their guard in the title battle against Real Madrid, admitting the trophy is now Barca’s to lose.

Franck Kessie’s stoppage-time winner on Sunday sealed a 2-1 win over Real Madrid. The victory moved Barcelona 12 points clear at the top of the standings. They’re now in a strong position to claim their first LaLiga crown since 2019, as there are only 12 games left to play.

“It’s not definitive, I don’t feel like we are champions yet, but it’s a huge step forward,” Xavi said in a post-match press conference at Camp Nou.

“I am happy because [the lead is] 12 points with 12 games left, but it’s not over. Only we can lose LaLiga, so we cannot switch off. We cannot relax. There are still a lot of games to go.”

Barcelona won’t be back in action until April 1, with the international break now in play.

Xavi’s side will go up against bottom side Elche away from home for their next league match.
