The Frenchman’s future hangs in the balance as he continues to contemplate an offer from Barca.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has said Ousmane Dembele should ‘make an effort’ and commit his future to the club, as he won’t find ‘a better sporting project’ elsewhere.

The 24-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement to join a foreign club for next season as a free agent.

Barcelona have offered Dembele a new deal after five months of negotiations with the winger and his agents, but are still waiting for a final answer.

“It’s time for Ousmane to make an effort”

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Xavi confidently told reporters that Dembele won’t find a better club than Barca.

“I’m relaxed because now it depends on the club, Ousmane, and his agents,” said the manager.

“It’s time for Ousmane to make an effort and to think about himself and his future. The best option for him would be to stay at Barcelona.

“But what happens now depends on him and his agents. I hope he makes an effort. He won’t find a better sporting project, so let’s see what decision is reached. It’s a question of time now.”

Reports have linked several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, with moves for Dembele.

Xavi has previously revealed that if the Frenchman agrees to a pay cut in his new contract, Barcelona can register new signing Ferran Torres amid issues with La Liga’s salary cap rules.

The Blaugrana begin the defense of their Copa del Rey title away to Spanish third-tier club Linares Deportivo in a Round of 32 clash on Wednesday.
