The head coach sang Robert Lewandowski’s praises after a solid start to life at Barca from the Pole.

Robert Lewandowski is ‘an unbelievable signing’ and the ‘top player in the world of football’, according to Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez.

The 33-year-old striker made his first appearance for his new club on Saturday in a 1-0 friendly win against Real Madrid in Las Vegas, just four days after completing his €45 million transfer from Bayern Munich.

He arrives at Camp Nou off the back of scoring 40+ goals in club competition across the last seven seasons.

Xavi praises his new signing

“[Lewandowski] has adapted really well,” Xavi told reporters at a press conference in the United States. “He’s very humble – he’s won almost everything in the world of football.

“He has the humility to work hard for the team, and for us he’s an unbelievable signing. So really good, really happy to have Robert in the team, and [against Madrid] he adapted really well.

“He controlled the ball when Madrid pressed high, he understood really well when it was his moment to control and play for the attacking midfielders or for the defensive midfielder.

“He went deep many times, so we are talking about the top player in the world of football.”

Lewandowski could play for Barcelona again on Tuesday in a friendly against Juventus in Dallas.

The 26-time Spanish champions will begin their latest LaLiga campaign on August 13 at home to Rayo Vallecano.
