Despite a positive end to an otherwise lackluster campaign, the Barca boss is already planning to go one better.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has said fighting for major titles is the club’s target for next season.

The 42-year-old has helped trigger a revival at Camp Nou after his appointment in November. In 36 matches so far, he has overseen 20 victories and just seven defeats. This form has helped Barca grab a second-place finish in La Liga and, therefore, secure Champions League qualification for next term.

The season, however, will end on a trophyless note as Barca failed to win La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, or the Europa League – something Xavi hopes to change in 2022/23.

“We reached the minimum required at Barca, which is to play the Super Cup next season,” said the head coach following Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Getafe.

“I did have hopes of winning a title, but we haven’t made it. We need to reinforce ourselves and make an effort between all of us. Next year we have to fight for titles.”

Barcelona next face Villarreal at Camp Nou this coming Sunday for their final game of the season.
