The new FC Barcelona boss responded to reports that Sergio Aguero has decided to hang up his boots.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has labeled reports of Sergio Aguero’s impending retirement as ‘not true’.

After suffering chest pains in only his fifth appearance for Barcelona on October 30, Aguero was sent to the hospital. Tests later diagnosed him with cardiac arrhythmia – an irregular heartbeat problem. He previously suffered from it at the start of his football career.

The 33-year-old will spend the next three months at least recovering and has stated he won’t make decisions until then.

However, shortly before Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday, reports claimed otherwise. Journalist Gerard Romero announced Aguero has retired on Twitch. The Argentine’s former Manchester City teammate Samir Nasri backed these claims, revealing he got a message from his friend.

“He just sent me a message and unfortunately it is confirmed,” Nasri told Canal Plus.

What did Xavi have to say?

Speaking in a post-match conference on Saturday, Xavi said: “I do not know anything. I spoke with him the other day and what has come out is not true.

“We do not have this information. I do not know where it comes from.

“He is calm. I told him to come when he is well. It is a medical issue. We have to wait and find out.”
