The veteran defender will leave the club in the summer, ending his 11-year spell at Camp Nou.
Xavi Hernandez has reportedly chosen four players as the new Barcelona captains ahead of the next season.
On Wednesday, the Catalans confirmed Jordi Alba’s upcoming departure from the club.
The experienced right-back follows the footsteps of Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique, who ended their glorious Barcelona careers this season.
The departure of Alba has convinced Xavi to make a few changes to his side’s captaincy order.
According to AS, Sergi Roberto will wear Barca’s armband as their first captain. Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who was the team’s fourth captain this season, is now the second skipper.
Xavi has also decided to add two new players to his side’s captaincy order. Ronald Araujo and Robert Lewandowski will play as Barca’s third and fourth captains, respectively.
Barca’s remarkable defensive record this season has convinced Xavi to reward Araujo. The Uruguayan defender has become a cornerstone of Barcelona’s backline since making his senior debut in October 2020.
Lewandowski, on the other hand, has made a solid start to his Barcelona career after his move from Bayern Munich last summer.
The Polish striker became La Liga’s top scorer in his debut season, helping Barca reclaim the league title after four years.
