The Catalan giants extended their unbeaten start under Xavi to three games by beating Villarreal in La Liga.

FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez accepts Villarreal didn’t deserve to lose, but he was still happy to his side collect ‘three golden points’.

The Blaugrana made it back-to-back wins in La Liga since Xavi’s return by overcoming a late scare from Villarreal on Saturday to claim a 3-1 win at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Despite Samuel Chukwueze canceling out Frenkie de Jong’s controversial opener with a 76th-minute equalizer, Memphis Depay and Philippe Coutinho struck late goals to seal a vital win.

“We did not dominate the game as we expected, but we played against a great team. We were lucky in parts as Villarreal did not deserve to lose,” said Xavi told the media the game.

“It has taken a lot from us on the night. We have been fortunate with Memphis’ goal, but these are three golden points for us.”

Xavi also refused to discuss the referee’s decisions during the match and of rumors linking Manchester City forward Ferran Torres at Camp Nou.

Barcelona return to action next Saturday for a home match against Real Betis in La Liga.
