As the season draws to a close, Lionel Messi’s contract with PSG is nearing its end, and all indications point towards an imminent departure from the French club once his current deal concludes.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has said Lionel Messi’s potential return to the Spotify Camp Nou mostly hinges on the player’s own motives.

With Messi’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain up in the summer, the signature of a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner appears to be up for grabs, with clubs from Saudi Arabia and the United States interested.

That said, Barcelona, who had to allow Messi to leave in 2021 due to their financial problems, intend to try and re-sign their former talisman.

“It’s up in the air,” Xavi said in a press conference about the possibility of Messi rejoining the club.

“It depends on many things. There is not much more I can say. Leo is a spectacular footballer. He is a friend. From there, it depends on many things, but above all on his intentions and what he wants.”

Barcelona have submitted a plan to LaLiga detailing cutbacks over the next two years. It includes the registration for first-team players and how the club intends to make signings in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite missing a natural right-back lately, Xavi has made finding a replacement for departing captain Sergio Busquets a top priority. The manager confirmed this prior to Barca’s trip to Real Valladolid on Tuesday evening. For match stats and details, check out the Ace Football preview here.
