The England-born stars can switch their international allegiance and play for the Black Stars in the upcoming tournament.

Ghana defeated Nigeria in a tight playoff to secure their World Cup qualification earlier this week. As the Black Stars begin their preparation for the upcoming tournament, reports have emerged of a potential squad boost for Otto Addo’s squad.

On Thursday, Goal reported that Chelsea winger Callum Hudson Odoi is considering the possibility of playing for Ghana in the World Cup.

Speaking to Citi TV, Ghanaian Football Association director Henry Asante also named Brighton ace Tariq Lamptey as a potential addition to Ghana’s squad ahead of the tournament.

“If it is that we wake up tomorrow and the new coach of the Black Stars wants Tariq [Lamptey], Hudson-Odoi, whoever is available, we will look at the regulations and the possibility of getting them. If it is within our reach, we pursue it,” Asante Twum has told Citi TV.

“The new law for nationality switch is that you should be [three] years further from your last game [from the association you want to switch from], so it means that if today, Hudson played for England [three] years ago, we will look at the month [in which] he played, and if it is exactly two years, he has every right to switch nationality.”

Players who wish to switch international allegiance must not have played for their current national team in over three years. Hudson Odoi, who last played for the Three Lions in November 2019, could play for Ghana in World Cup if he decides to request a change of allegiance.
