The experienced Uruguayan supplied the goods in his last outing, convincing Ince that he’s exactly what Manchester United needed.

Paul Ince believes Edinson Cavani is a ‘proper center-forward’, unlike fellow Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial.

The 33-year-old striker, who arrived in a deadline-day free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in October, took his tally for the club up to three goals last weekend by bagging a brace in the 3-2 comeback win over Southampton. He also chipped in an assist for Bruno Fernandes at St Mary’s.

“Listen, he’s world-class,” said former Red Devils midfielder Ince as quoted on the Express.

“He’s not one of those that’s going to run channels or work the center-halves, but what he does is… if you put the balls in the right position, he will score you goals.

“He’s probably what Man United need, a proper center-forward.”

Cavani’s match-winning exploits have eased concerns over his ability to fit in over in the Premier League, with attention now diverting back to Martial.

The former Monaco star has failed to score in the league this season and was spotted leaving United’s Carrington training complex after just 11 minutes on Monday due to a reported illness.

“Martial is not a center-forward.

“He can play along the lines, but he’s not an out-and-out center-forward.

“They tried it with [Odion] Ighalo, it didn’t really work. This kid [Cavani] is world class.

“He knows the areas to go into, he can sense goals, he sniffs out goals and I think he will score a lot more goals for United this year.”
