Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal lock horns at Molineux on Tuesday evening for another Premier League showdown.

Both sides have endured underwhelming starts to their respective campaigns. But while Arsenal have made progress in recent weeks to climb into the top 10 in the league standings, Wolves continue to falter down in 14th place and eight points behind their opponents.

The hosts may have defeated Arsenal last time out at the Emirates 2-1, but it was only their second win in the last nine meetings (D3 L5) between the two clubs. And considering the Gunners’ improved form, along with their recent sound defensive displays, the visitors will be confident of a result in the West Midlands.

Wolves Form & Stats

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have crashed down hard in the Premier League. From successive seventh-place finishes in the last two campaigns, they sit down in 14th this term and already eight points outside the top 10.

Perhaps the worrying fact is how Wolves have lost more league games (10) than won (6) this season. In fact, they’ve already suffered more defeats than last season (9). And losing star striker Raul Jimenez, who fractured his skull in the club’s previous match with Arsenal in November, and Diogo Jota’s sale to Liverpool, has had a profound effect on them.

Wolves are even winless in their last eight league outings, losing on five occasions and drawing the other three times, and lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace last weekend. They’ve also collected at least two cards in three of their last four games. And considering the referee Craig Pawson is averaging 3.27 yellow cards-per-game, more bookings can be expected.

Key Team Stats
  • Winless in their last 8 league games (D3 L5).
  • Kept only 1 clean sheet in their last 14 league games.
  • Failed to score in their last 2 league games.
  • Haven’t lost 3 consecutive home league games since November 2018.
  • Hope to do a league double over Arsenal for the first time since 1978/79.
  • Tuesday’s match will be the club’s 250th in the Premier League.

Arsenal Form & Stats

The Gunners can move into sixth place with a victory at Molineux as the teams above them will not play until later in the week. It may only be temporary at least, but it would still be a testament to the progress made recently.

A 0-0 draw against Manchester United on Saturday extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run to seven league games. The visitors won five matches in the process, with at least three goals scored in four of them. They’ve also won their last three away fixtures and defeated Wolves 2-0 in their last visit to Molineux in July.

There are quite a few doubts ahead of the club’s latest match, though. Kieran Tierney is out again, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka are doubts. That said, this could open up another opportunity for Nicolas Pepe to shine. The Ivorian has impressed in his last two outings and can prove troublesome for the Wolves’ defense.

Key Team Stats
  • Unbeaten in their last 7 league games (W5 D2).
  • Last won 4 away league games in October 2016.
  • Second-best defensive record in the league on 20 conceded goals.
  • Conceded just 1 goal in their last 3 away league games.
  • Kept 6 clean sheets in their last 8 games across all competitions.
  • Won 5 of their last 10 league games against Wolves (D3 L2).
  • Alexandre Lacazette has scored in each of his last 3 away league games.
