Molineux Stadium was the place where Wolverhampton received a visit from Chelsea in the Premier League. We got player ratings.
After last weekend’s painful defeat against Everton, Chelsea was desperate to get a win against Wolves today. The Blues are one of the most powerful clubs of the season so far, but this week has proven that even giants can get knocked down. Nuno Espirito Santo is doing a fantastic job with his players this season despite setbacks such as Raul Jimenez’s untimely head injury.
Today, the Wolves keep proving they are one of the Premier League’s underdogs and a real headache for any of the Top Six clubs in English football. After a first half filled with mistakes from both sides, Olivier Giroud scored the opening goal when the second half started. Initially, his shot was apparently saved on the line but goal technology helped him claim it. With this one, the French striker is now Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 8.
Podence saves the day for Wolves.
The second half also gave us some interesting passages from Nuno’s squad and they dominated for most of the second half. There was a penalty not awarded to them during the final 20 minutes of the game that should’ve been called. Before that, Podence scored the equalizer with a brilliant solo goal through a shot from inside the box.
As Chelsea got more urgency to win the game, they opened more space for the Wolves’ counter-attacks. Neto was the one who scored the winning goal near the end of the match and got divine justice that that penalty that wasn’t awarded in his favor. With this result, the Wolves move to the 13th spot with 17 points and Chelsea lags behind in 5th position with 22 units. The Premier League remains as unpredictable as ever.
