The English midfielder put in a praiseworthy performance to justify his selection in Spurs’ FA Cup fourth-round clash on Monday.
Harry Winks admits to being in an uncomfortable situation at Tottenham but is ready to fight for a place in the starting XI.
Winks has not been getting as much preference as Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg due to which his opportunities on the pitch have been limited this season.
But he was given the nod ahead of them for the match against Wycombe and the Englishman made sure to make it count.
With the scores tied at 1-1 until very late in the game, the 24-year-old produced a decisive strike from 20 yards out to break the deadlock. His goal proved to be a catalyst as Tottenham went on to beat Wycombe 4-1.
Speaking after the game, Winks hinted at frustration over not being a regular starter but insisted it is up to him to prove his worth to manager Jose Mourinho.
“Still in and out, which is not what I want, but that is football and every time I get the chance I have to take it,” he told BT Sport, via Goal.
“It was a tough game and it was important I approached it in the right way. Every game is an opportunity to prove my worth. Today was a good day for me.”
Winks added on Radio Five: “It’s difficult not to get regular game time and build up momentum but every time I get the opportunity I have to take it; that’s down to me to perform well.”
