Willian is looking forward to playing alongside David Luiz and reveals that his compatriot played a major part in his Arsenal move.

The uncertainty surrounding Willian’s future finally faded last week when Arsenal announced his signing on a free transfer.

The 32-year old Brazilian, who spent seven years at Chelsea, had long been in disagreement with his former club regarding terms over contract extension.

It was understood that he wanted a three-year deal, but Chelsea were only willing to offer him a two-year extension. No agreement could be reached between the two parties, prompting the player to part ways with the club.

Willian now joins David Luiz, Olivier Giroud, Petr Cech, Cesc Fabregas, among many others, in the list of players to have played for both the North West London clubs.

In an interview with the club’s official website, he was asked how Luiz reacted to him following in his foot steps.

H replied: “He is very happy. We played together in the national team, we played together at Chelsea, and now at Arsenal again.

“I think we can do great things together, I hope so, but I’m very happy to be with him again.

“He said, ‘Come to Arsenal, come to Arsenal, I want you to come!’ So that was the conversation. He is a very nice guy, a top player and I’m very excited to play with him again. Of course [he helped in the past], many times.”
