The Gunners will start the second half of the season without one of their best players.
Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes Arsenal can still win the Premier League despite Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
The Gunners made a perfect start to the new season, finishing as the league leaders before the World Cup break. However, Jesus’ World Cup injury will force Mikel Arteta to play without one of his key forwards.
After making his £50m move from Manchester City, Jesus quickly established himself as a crucial part of Arsenal’s attacking line.
However, Eriksson insists that won’t be enough to stop Arteta’s men from claiming the domestic trophy.
“Gabriel Jesus’ injury is very bad news for Arsenal, but I still think they can win the Premier League,” he told OLBG.
“I have not seen much of Eddie Nketiah but I have watched Arsenal a few times and I think Mikel Arteta is doing a fantastic job.
“It will be hard to beat Manchester City because they don’t lose many games, but Arsenal can do it.”
Eddie Nketiah will most likely play a significant role in Arteta’s plans for the second half of the season. The English star is eager to cover for Jesus’ absence if he gets enough game time.
“I have been working hard, I’ve been working hard all season and I’m sure when I get the opportunity I’ll be able to come in and help the team,” Nketiah said.
“I spoke to him [Jesus] and wished him a speedy recovery. It is never nice to see anyone miss a World Cup and also for us as a team he is a big player, we are going to miss him. We are all behind him.”
