The newly-signed striker underwent successful cancer surgery earlier this month.
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed their plans to sign a replacement for Sebastien Haller ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
Haller joined Dortmund on a reported £27m deal earlier this summer. The Black and Yellows signed the Ivorian star to replace Erling Haaland, who left the club to join Manchester City.
However, a cancer diagnosis rocked Dortmund’s transfer plans, forcing them to look for a new striker.
“We said as long as we don’t have a clear diagnosis, we have to keep the ball flat first. That’s also a matter of respect for the boy,” Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke told Sportschau.
“But we have it now and of course, it’s clear then that the downtime will be relatively long.
“Now dumping everything on Youssoufa Moukoko’s shoulders, he’s 17 years old, that might be a bit too much. We’ll do something again in terms of personnel. Ideally, something should happen in the next eight to ten days.”
Haller will be out for ‘several months’ according to Dortmund, undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment. German outlets have linked the club with several options both in Bundesliga and abroad.
FC Koln’s Anthoney Modeste is reportedly among the club’s options, while they have also inquired about Giovanni Simeone and Edinson Cavani.
