The Dutchman recently explained why he swapped Anfield for Parc des Princes, stirring up some controversy in the process.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has hit back at Georginio Wijnaldum over his claim he “didn’t feel loved and appreciated” at the club.
Wijnaldum let his Liverpool contract run down before eventually joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last month.
The Reds’ decision to let go of a player who had been central to their Champions League and Premier League successes in recent years was not exactly met with great enthusiasm by a section of their supporters.
Fingers of blame were also pointed out at the midfielder for leaving the club after it was reported that money was the driving force in his decision for a transfer away.
However, in a brief interview with the Telegraph, the Netherlands international appeared to take aim at the Reds while explaining his decision to call time on his five-year Anfield career.
“I love Gini but this is not right, social media is a circus and every club has clowns,” Carragher wrote on Twitter in response to Wijnaldum’s statements.
“Turn off your notifications & if it’s bothering you that much, delete the app!
“He wanted more money [and] the club said no, that’s football!”
