The Spurs have handed the iconic jersey to one of their new signings.
James Maddison becomes Tottenham’s new No.10 , inheriting the jersey from Harry Kane.
Bayern Munich completed a €120m move to sign Kane from Tottenham on Friday. But the Spurs wasted no time in offering the No.10 jersey to a new player.
Maddison, who has arrived from Leicester City on a five-year contract, aims to become a creative force in Tottenham’s midfield.
“There’s a little window for me at Tottenham Hotspur, a creative player that they’ve always had, maybe not had in recent years,” he told TNT Sports.
“I could definitely see myself, when making the decision, playing for Tottenham, in that kit, in that stadium and being the creative player I know I can be.
“I’ve always had a strong self-belief and I’ll always back myself and my own ability to succeed. It hasn’t failed me so far so I will continue to have that mindset and attitude. I just saw myself playing at Tottenham.”
Ange Postecoglou’s side started the new Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Brentford. Maddison provided assists for both Spurs goals, finding a fantastic start to his career at the club.
Next up, Tottenham will host Manchester United in the Premier League next weekend.
