A disastrous 15-minute cameo in Manchester United’s Liverpool mauling on Sunday saw Paul Pogba get sent off with a straight red card.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to bench Paul Pogba for arguably Manchester United’s biggest match of the season caught many fans by surprise.

But by the end of it, they probably wished he just left the midfielder at home.

4-0 down, already beaten, Pogba replaced Mason Greenwood at half-time in a desperate attempt to launch a comeback. Yet it had the reverse effect. Instead of helping claw back the deficit or salvage some pride, the Frenchman made things worse by getting a straight red card after a wild tackle on Naby Keita.

United went on to lose 5-0 to Liverpool on the night.

According to the Premier League, Pogba is now on course for a three-match suspension because of ‘a straight red card for serious foul play’. United have not announced if they’ll appeal the decision.

The three Premier League games he will miss

Should Pogba’s ban stand, the 28-year-old will miss the following Premier League matches:

  • Tottenham Hotspur (A) – October 30
  • Manchester City (H) – November 6
  • Watford (A) – November 20

On the bright side, as Pogba is suspended for games in the Premier League only, he can face Atalanta on November 2 and Villarreal on November 23 in the Champions League.

When could Pogba return?

Pogba could return to Premier League action for Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea on November 28.

The reason for the delay is that there will be another international break between the 8 and 16th of November.

So as things stand, Pogba could be looking at over a month with no Premier League action.
