Find out which Arsenal players are out and doubtful for the upcoming FA Cup game against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

At least five Arsenal players will be missing for the FA Cup game against Liverpool.

The record 14-time FA Cup winners will begin their campaign on Sunday in a third-round tie. Their opponents will be Liverpool, and the match will take place at the Emirates Stadium.

In his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta announced Oleksandr Zinchenko is a doubt. The left-back is in a race against time to prove his fitness. He missed last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Fulham because of a minor calf injury.

“He’s progressing well,” Arsenal manager Arteta said on Zinchenko’s availability as quoted by Football London.

“We have another training session tomorrow. We’ll evaluate if he’s ready to start the game. The rest there is no news.”

Five players are definitely out

Justin Timber, Fabio Vieira, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, and Takehiro Tomiyasu won’t be available to face Liverpool.

Elneny has reported to the Egypt national team for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, while Tomiyasu is in Japan’s Asian Cup squad.

Partey couldn’t join Elneny at AFCON because of a lingering thigh injury. This has caused him to miss out on a place in Ghana’s squad. He underwent a procedure to fix his thigh problem and is now in recovery.

“It was about common sense. He had a long-term injury,” Arteta said of Partey’s absence from AFCON.

“He really wanted to be with his national team, but he’s still far from training for the team. It didn’t make sense for him to be involved.”

As for Vieira, Arteta reported that the midfielder is making good progress after undergoing surgery on his groin. He could be available for selection ‘in the next few weeks’.

Timber, a €40 million summer signing from Ajax, is still a long way off in his recovery from an ACL tear though. The 22-year-old defender is still not ready for group training. Arteta doesn’t expect him back ‘anytime soon’.
