The Uruguayan defender left the pitch in an ambulance during Barcelona’s match against Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
Ronal Araujo might return to action for Barcelona as soon as this weekend.
The 23-year-old, who collapsed during Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Celta Vigo, has recovered from his concussion. The Barca star clashed heads with his teammate Gavi before leaving the pitch on an ambulance.
However, Araujo’s situation normalized quickly in the hospital, with the Uruguayan then returning to his side’s training earlier this week.
Unlike England, where players with head injuries cannot return to action for at least six days, La Liga doesn’t have the rule to prevent Araujo from playing this Sunday.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Xavi Hernandez confirmed the defender wants to take part in his side’s next match.
“Araujo wants to play,” Xavi said on Saturday. “For us that means a lost. At no time was he unconscious, and he wants to play. He wants to be with us.
“I am moved by the commitment he has. The feelings on the training field are very good. He was not unconscious and in that sense it is important so that he can be there tomorrow.”
Araujo has developed into a cornerstone of Barca’s backline this season. The Uruguayan star signed a contract extension with the club earlier this month, extending his stay until 2026.
Let’s see if Xavi will give the versatile defender a place in his starting lineup this weekend.
