A clinical performance from the Hammers secured their place in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.

West Ham defeated Arsenal 3-1 in their Carabao Cup game on Wednesday. The Gunners lost the derby despite dominating the possession at the London Stadium.

What happened?

West Ham started the game on the front foot as they pushed for the opener. The hosts had to wait only 16 minutes to make it 1-0 through Ben White’s own goal.

Arsenal immediately started their efforts to get back into the game but barely made any serious chances before the break. West Ham then made a strong start to the second period, doubling their lead only five minutes after the game’s restart.

Mohammed Kudus’ precise low shot made it 2-0 for the hosts, forcing Mikel Arteta to make a number of changes to his lineup. Arsenal managed to regain control over the game but couldn’t convert their chances.

Jarred Bowen then put the victory to bed for West Ham with a behind-the-box shot. The strike met a poor reaction from Aaron Ramsdale before ricocheting into the corner of the net.

The Gunners managed to pull one back through Martin Odegaard in the extra time, but it was already too late to mount a comeback.
