Let’s take a look at the Premier League Player Ratings from Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against West Ham.

Pep Guardiola feared no European commitments for West Ham could leave City at a disadvantage, and that certainly proved the case in the first half as the hosts embarked on a bright start.

The Hammers more than held their own against a sluggish City side, who struggled to make anything happen. The visitors dominated possession, but couldn’t create any chances out of it and were duly punished.

David Moyes’ fast on the counter game plan worked to perfection during the opening period. City were frustrated, with Michail Antonio’s brilliant overhead kick handing the hosts an unexpected lead in the 18th-minute.

Although Antonio, who has now scored twice in his last three league games, had to make way for Sebastian Haller after sustaining an injury early into the second half.

It was by that stage that City flexed their muscle and began piling actual pressure on West Ham. Substitute Phil Foden reaped the rewards by equalizing just six minutes after coming for Sergio Aguero. He collected Joao Cancelo’s pass inside the box and made a wonderful turn before firing the ball past Lukasz Fabianski.

Despite a myriad of attempts at a winner in the last quarter of the match, however, Guardiola’s side couldn’t break down a stubborn host’s defense. No matter what they tried it came to avail. They even brought on Kevin De Bruyne, who missed the last two games through injury, to turn things around.

In the end, though, a resilient West Ham held on for a valuable point at the London Stadium. The result would’ve been very satisfying for Moyes, who has now extended the club’s unbeaten run to four league games. Not to mention they’ve avoided defeats to Tottenham and now City to take eight points so far.

City, meanwhile, remain outside the top-10 spots and level on points with West Ham, albeit behind on an inferior goal difference. They’ve only won two of their fives games, and the pressure will surely be building on Guardiola.

The former Barcelona boss must now prepare his side for a trip to Marseille on Tuesday for their next Champions League game before another Premier League away fixture at Sheffield United four days later.
