The Red Devils, instead of cutting it down, further increased the gap from the top of the table after a dull display at the Hawthorns.
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion away from home.
The match had barely started when United found themselves already trailing behind, with Mbaye Diagne handing West Brom the lead at the two-minute mark.
Diagne out muscled Victor Lindelof to meet Conor Gallagher’s dipping cross towards the far post and headed the ball past a helpless David de Gea to score his first goal for the club.
The visitors produced a response at the brink of half-time, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the equalizer at minute 44. Fernandes escaped his marker to get on the end of Luke Shaw’s first-time cross and smashed a left-footed volleyed effort into the top of the net.
Man United have been able to amass just six points from their previous five Premier League matches. They now trail seven points behind rivals leaders Manchester City, who till have a game in hand.
West Brom, meanwhile, who were at rock bottom, move one place up to 19th in the standings.
