Chelsea’s progress in the Champions League has left Werner feeling hungrier than ever to win big in Europe.
Timo Werner has hit back against those who criticized the timing of his transfer to Chelsea from last summer.
The German stepped aside from RB Leipzig’s involvement in the knockout stages last August, having already agreed to a transfer to Chelsea.
His former club progressed to the semi-finals of the 2019/20 edition before losing 3-0 to eventual runners-up Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon.
However, Chelsea have since progressed to the last four of the current Champions League campaign. They will face Real Madrid in Spain for the first leg. And, unlike last season, Werner is expected to play.
“Last year I dropped out in the quarter-finals because of the move,” said the forward as per the Express.
“I had a lot of criticism for that in Germany because it is not often you are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but now I have reached it again, one year later, with my new club.
“I can show everybody I can do it not only with one team but with two, two years in a row.
“It makes me proud, more hungry to make it this year to the final, and maybe to win.”
