Messi appeared to reject the Dutchman’s request for a chat after Argentina’s win over Netherlands.

Wout Weghorst has opened up on his post-game altercation with Lionel Messi following Netherlands’ defeat against Argentina in the World Cup.

Weghorst scored twice for the Oranje to bring them back into the game against Argentina. But the Albiceleste managed to reach the semi-finals by beating their opponents in the penalties.

Before starting his interview with TyC Sports, Messi said to somebody out of camera shot: “What are you looking at, fool?”

Several reports have confirmed Messi was addressing Weghorst, who wanted to speak with him after the game.

“I wanted to shake his hand after the game, I have a lot of respect for him as a soccer player,” the Dutch striker said, “but he threw my hand to the side and didn’t want to talk to me.”

He added: “My Spanish isn’t very good, but he said disrespectful words to me and that disappoints me, really disappointing.”

Weghorst wasn’t the only victim of Messi’s rage after the game. The Paris Saint-Germain star rushed toward Louis van Gaal after Lautaro Martinez’s winning penalty. But Netherlands staff were quick to separate the two.

FIFA will launch an investigation over the possible disciplinary breaches after the game.
