Chelsea pip Barcelona in the race for €60m defender

Chelsea are edging closer to a deal worth €60 million (£51m) for Sevilla’s Jules Kounde after a day of transfer talks with the LaLiga outfit.

Despite interest from Barcelona, Sevilla would rather sell Kounde to the Blues. The club want a decision soon. While the defender has accepted personal terms with Chelsea, he is still open to a Camp Nou switch.

There are also growing fears in the Chelsea camp that Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe will reject a transfer to Stamford Bridge. [Evening Standard]

Lingard is in ‘advanced talks’ with Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest are in “advanced talks” to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

The former Manchester United midfielder is expected to decide on his future this week. Forest are hopeful of a deal, but West Ham are in talks with Lingard as well. The 29-year-old spent a successful six months on loan in east London during the 2020-21 campaign.

Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and two clubs from the Middle East are also interested in Lingard. [The Telegraph]

Tagliafico is set for Lyon move

Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico is edging closer to completing a €4 million transfer to Lyon.

The 29-year-old Argentine could sign a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club by the end of the week. Lyon are also working on a deal for Nantes’ Quentin Merlin as a plan B option. [L’Equipe – in French]

Azpilicueta can join Barcelona…on one condition

Chelsea will allow Cesar Azpilicueta to join Barcelona, but only when they have secured a replacement for their captain.

The 32-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona this summer, along with fellow Blues full-back Marcos Alonso. Barca have already signed Andreas Christensen from the London club. [Marca – in Spanish]
