The Portuguese superstar has been seeking a move away from Old Trafford since the start of the summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag expects Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United beyond the current transfer window.

Ronaldo asked Man Utd to allow his exit earlier this summer. Napoli and Sporting Lisbon have emerged as the 37-year-old’s newest suitors ahead of the transfer window deadline.

However, Ten Hag has revealed he wants to have CR7 in his squad for the ongoing season.

When asked about Ronaldo’s future at the club, the Dutchman told reporters: “It is clear, of course. We need quality players.

“You need more to cover all the games to keep the consistency going. That’s what we strive for.”

Ten Hag added: “You always have to be alert at a top club. But we will go from September to minimum January with this squad.”

Ronaldo was Man Utd’s top-scorer last season. However, he has lost his place in the Red Devils’ lineup since the arrival of Ten Hag.

The recent signing of Antony from Ajax will increase the competition even more in United’s attacking line.

But, Ten Hag believes his side will need more offensive reinforcements soon.

“We need to strengthen our squad,” Ten Hag admitted.

“We have many games to cover – from now on we go in three games a week.

“Especially from offensive players, they are quicker fatigued because they have to run more and run with higher intensity.

“We need numbers there, we need not just quantity but quality.”
