Milan were found on the wrong end of a scoreline after quite a while on Thursday, and Stefano Pioli blames the team’s own wrongdoings.

A 24-match unbeaten streak came to an end for AC Milan as they were handed a thorough 3-0 beating in the Europa League matchday 3.

It was attacking midfielder Yusuf Yazici who all by himself helped Lille overpower the Serie A side by scoring a hat-trick in the Group H fixture.

Yazici’s first goal came from the harshly-awarded spot-kick, he netted his second with the help of a mistake by Gianluigi Donnarumma and finally completed his second hat-trick of the European campaign by catching the opposition defense by surprise at the 58th minute.

All in all, Lille dominated the match and were decisive enough to make Milan, who looked far off their usual high standards, pay for their errors.

“We were up against a strong team and we made life difficult for ourselves,” Stefano Pioli told Sky Sport Italia after the full-time whistle.

“We hadn’t started badly, but I thought we’d be more dangerous in attack and we weren’t able to create enough chances. With such a strong counter-attacking side, once we went behind, inevitably it opened up spaces and that played into their hands.

“For the first time in a long while, we have more negatives than positives to look at.”
