After a complicated process to reach this point, we finally have the dream Copa America final all set between Brazil and Argentina.
Yesterday, we finally got the Copa America final everybody wanted to be set for next Saturday at Maracana Stadium. The legendary venue where the Maracanazo happened back in 1950 could potentially bring us another historic night. Neymar’s Brazil has been considered the favorite to lift the title this year. With all the Covid-19 restrictions in the rest of South America, President Jair Bolsonaro was smart enough to offer his country for the tournament. He very well knew that his national team had an obvious advantage playing at home.
However, things didn’t really go as planned for the Canarinha. Manager ‘Tite’ struggled to make his players dominate as they did at the start of the tournament. As it turns out, South American football squads can become a real problem when they are competing for silverware. Brazil struggled against teams like Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. They aren’t the overwhelming favorites they appeared at the start of the tournament. Regardless, they still made it to the final but their toughest test awaits them.
Messi vs Neymar is set.
When Brazil defeated Peru in the semifinal, Neymar spoke to the press to tell them that he wanted Argentina for the final. This was his biggest wish and he was rooting for the Albiceleste last night against Colombia. After a complicated 90 minutes of play, the match went to a dramatic penalty shootout. Goalie Emiliano Martinez became the hero that granted us all the wish of getting a final between Messi and Neymar.
All those times we never got a final between Messi and Ronaldo during a World Cup can be compensated next Saturday. For this game, the Argentina squad arrives as a more complete squad than Brazil with some evident improvements. Even though they didn’t start the tournament very well, it is clear they are the ones worthy to challenge Brazil for the title. This is Neymar and his teammates’ trophy to lose against a veteran Leo Messi. We are getting a brilliant match that will be talked about for decades to come.
