On a night where Arsenal needed goals, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up to score a late winner against Benfica in the Europa League.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a crucial brace to send Arsenal through to the Europa League round of 16.

After grabbing the opener, the Gunners found themselves trailing 2-1 in the second-half. Based on the away-goal rule, Arteta and company needed nothing but a win.

Kieran Tierney sent in a brilliant effort to make it 2-2 before Aubameyang sealed the winner to make it 3-2 just minutes from the final whistle.

The Gabonese forward continues his impressive run in cup games for Arsenal. He has now scored a goal at least. in seven of his last eight cup appearances for the Gunners. The only game he failed to score was the first leg against Benfica, where Bukayo Saka scored for the Gunners in a 1-1 result.

Speaking after the game, Aubameyang says his nerves were calm and also believes it was a well deserved win for his side.

“Solid! I have to tell the truth!” he said to the club’s official website.

“It was a hard one, but at the end I think we deserved it because we showed great character tonight, all the team and the guys that came in as well. They gave so much for the comeback and we did it, so we are so happy!”

“It’s hard because when you concede one, it’s okay, but then when you concede a second one, you know that you have to score two goals again, so it’s really hard, but as I said, we showed character and we kept calm during the whole match. We scored in the last minute and we are happy.”

“It could be very good [for the rest of the campaign]. I think in this difficult season, hopefully this will give us some hope, but also some confidence for the future that we can do comebacks like this.”

With his latest brace, Aubameyang is now up to 13 goals from 26 total appearances for Arsenal this season.
