The Rossoneri emerged as Scudetto favorites in the first half of the season but now find themselves lagging behind rivals Inter Milan.

Stefano Pioli has hailed his team’s fighting spirit after an injury-stricken AC Milan claimed a convincing 2-0 win over Hellas Verona.

Milan traveled to Marcantonio Bentegodi without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mario Mandzukic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic Ismael Bennacer, and Daniel Maldini who are all on the sidelines.

With several forwards missing, goals came from midfield and defense as Rade Krunic and Diogo Dalot helped the Rossoneri steal all three points.

Krunic hit a wonderful free-kick in the first half while Dalot unleashed a powerful shot into the top-left corner 15 minutes after the break.

Milan continue to apply pressure on leaders Inter Milan with the victory with only three points separating the two sides.

“We have been playing every four days since September, we spend a lot of energy but we have shown that we are there and believe in it, and this is the important thing,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia post-match.

“Milan always wins, we are a strong team even when there are no level players.

“We are not Martians. some games may be wrong, but we know our path and the difficulties that will help us grow.

“Continuity is not a simple thing. We are working to increase the quality and cover the defects.”
