The Toffees defender was stretched out of the pitch only ten minutes into the game.
Ben Godfrey suffered a serious ankle injury in the early stages of Everton’s Premier League opener against Chelsea.
Following an unsuccessful tackle in the tenth minute, Godfrey suffered a brutal ankle injury. The English defender looked shell-shocked as the Everton fans in the stadium went silent.
The referee immediately requested a stretcher, but the game didn’t stop until Everton’s medical team gave Godfrey extensive on-pitch care.
Fans have criticized the referee for not stopping the game before the tackle. Kai Havertz’s ball was well over the line before Godfrey’s sliding challenge sent the ball to the corner.
The 24-year-old joins a long list of injured Everton players at the early stages of the new season.
In addition to Godfrey, who might have broken his ankle, Frank Lampard’s side are without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Andros Townsend, Andre Gomes and Tom Davies.
