A last-minute winner sends Louis van Gaal’s side top of the Group A4 table.

Netherlands defeated Wales 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League game on Wednesday. An uneventful game ended with crazy extra-time excitement at the Cardiff City Stadium.

A rotated Netherland lineup!

Louis van Gaal changed the entire lineup that crushed Belgium 4-1 on Friday. The Oranje struggled to find their rhythm throughout the first period but looked much better after the interval.

Having increased the pressure on Wales’ backline, Netherlands finally broke the deadlock through Teun Koopmeiners in the 50th minute.

Wales pushed to get back into the game but remained too cautious of their opponents’ counter-attacks. However, the Dragons went all-in with their attacks in the final ten minutes.

Following a few half-chances Rhys Norrington-Davies made it 1-1 for the hosts with a towering header in the 92nd minute. The Dragons thought they had escaped the home defeat, but then came Wout Weghorst’s last-minute winner.

Tyrell Malacia sent an inch-perfect cross for the unmarked Weghorst, who smashed a diving header into the back of the net as soon as he received it.

The victory sends Netherlands to the top of the Group A4 table while Wales slip to the fourth spot.
