Chances came in short supply for either side, and the match at the Baku Olympic Stadium ended with a point apiece.
Wales and Switzerland played out a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the European Championships.
Wales were the dominant side, evident from the fact that they had 65 percent possession of the ball, took 18 shots, and were given 12 corners. However, owing to the lack of efficiency in the final third of the pitch, they had not much to show for it after the full-time whistle.
Breel Embolo opened the scoring at minute 49, heading the ball into the bottom left from an Xherdan Shaqiri corner. Embolo could have had a hat-trick as he missed two chances moments before and after his opener, with one of his shots tipped over by the goalkeeper while he fired wide the other one.
About 15 minutes from time, Kieffer Moore drilled in a powerful header past Yann Sommer following a short corner routine to level the scoreline.
Had Mario Gavranovic been a bit better positioned, Switzerland could’ve snatched all three points as the Dinamo Zagreb forward found the net at the 85th-minute but his goal was ruled offside.
