Barca claimed a narrow win to extend their lead at the top of the La Liga table to 11 points.

Barcelona defeated Villarreal 1-0 in their La Liga game on Sunday. The Catalans have registered 15 victories and one draw in their last 16 outings.

A hard-fought draw!

Barcelona started off as the better side, pushing hard to snatch an early opener. Pepe Reina managed to deny Robert Lewandowski twice but couldn’t stop Pedri from breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute.

A wonderful piece of buildup play saw Lewandowski and Pedri complete a one-two inside Villarreal’s box. The Spain international then smashed the bottom-left corner of the net to put Barca ahead.

The Catalans found a few more chances to increase their lead in the first half. But the course of the game changed after the break.

Valencia increased the pressure on Barca’s backline after the hour-mark and created a host of serious opportunities to score the equalizer.

However, Barca’s solid defence helped them escape with the three points. The victory sends Barcelona 11 points clear at the top of the La Liga table, but Real Madrid still have a game at hand.
Next up, the Catalans must host Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday.
